Cherry Glazed Valentine Cookies
Ingredients:
Cookies
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- maraschino cherries
Cherry Glaze
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 tablespoon of maraschino cherry liquid
- 1 tablespoon water
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Take a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Set aside
To make the cookies: In a mixing bowl, add the butter, flour, confectioners sugar and almond extract.
Beat this together until it is smooth and creamy.
Using a cookie scoop, teaspoon or tablespoon drop the mixture onto your prepared baking sheet. Place cookies 2 inches apart.
Drain some maraschino cherries and reserve 1 tablespoon of the cherry liquid to make the glaze.
Cut each cherry in half.
Lightly press down one half of a cherry into the top of each cookie.
Bake in the oven for about 10 - 15 minutes or until the bottoms are slightly brown.
Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
Then transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.
To make the glaze: In a bowl, add the confectioners sugar, your reserved maraschino cherry liquid and water.
Stir together until well combined.
Drizzle the glaze over your cooled cookies.
